Read this essay and you will know about corrupt coroners' employees and corrupt crime scene cleanup businesses.

Cronyism occurs when government employees mislead the public to benefit crony companies. In return these government employees receive money from their crony companies. By creating a crony relationship with private companies, government employees hurt the public; they hurt free enterprise. The public must pay higher prices. Honest companies lose opportunities to compete and serve the public good. Even insurance companies must pay more. Everyone loses but the cronies.

As a consequence the American economy suffers because cronyism destroys free enterprise. Americans are known to love free enterprise and to die "face down in the mud" for it. This has been so since 1776.

So we see that because of cronyism in crime scene cleanup, the public suffers; friends and relatives of the deceased are cheated by corrupt coroners' employees. Even county administrators and medical examiner employees are known to take part in cronyism. Also, honest crime scene cleanup companies lose needed revenue to service the public's need for professional death scene cleaners. The honest companies would and could charge less for cleaning up death scenes.

Sometimes coroners' employees start their own business with their privileged information. Now they simply give their company telephone number to survivors of crime scenes. In the same way the public receives this information for suicide cleanup and unattended death cleanup.

We can see how cronies gain much money, power, and influence while the public gets cheated. How would you like to pay more money for a service because your government favors one company over others? We know for a fact that this happens in Orange County, California; it is alleged to be happening in Fresno, California and Atlanta, Georgia, as well as many other places.

We see that bureaucracies (like the coroner's office) in local, county, state, and federal governments hurt the public. Cronyism has crippled, in part, the Russian economy. So we can see again how cronyism steals from the public because it destroys free enterprise.

Bureaucracies become self-serving. Some even forget who they were created to serve. Add cronyism to this self-serving tendency, and we see again how free enterprise suffers as well as the public good. In regards to government supervisors and "watch dogs," they may be ignorant or part of the cronyism. It is hard to prove that cronyism is going on, hard to detect when employees are trusted, sworn servants.

Of course, in places like Orange County, California, there are at least three very cheap, quick solutions to any hint of cronyism in the coroner's department. If anyone were to care, that is. One, handout all state approved crime scene cleanup company telephone numbers to survivors of crime scenes. Two, give this url: http://www.cdph.ca.gov/certlic/medicalwaste/Documents/MedicalWaste/Practitioners.pdf on a small piece of paper. Three, give no such information.

The first safeguard from cronyism requires little more than reducing font size on paper to save paper; the second safeguard from cronyism requires little more than advising survivors of crime scenes to use telephone books or the Internet for information. The third safeguard to cronyism requires no more than employees saying the following:

"We can refer only to the list of Callifornia trauma scene practitioners located on the Internet. You can use the county library's computers."

Of course, as we expect from most bureaucracies, it is easier to ignore an issue (denial) than resolve it.

After time, sociologically speaking, crony relationships reflect an abbreviated form of fascism, but without apparent, official government sanction.

As indicated above, Orange County, California's coroner's office is a perfect example of rampant cronyism. It is ironic, too, that the Orange County Sheriff was brought up on criminal charges for taking kickbacks. In the case of the Coroner's department, kickbacks grow from a numbers racket. The bereaved are handed 3 select telephone numbers from the California Health Department list.

Officially, the coroner's employees claim that 3 telephone numbers (See Registered Trauma Scene Management Practitioners list (PDF)) are handed out by area code, randomly. This cannot be so, this writer, eddie evans, knows. If employee claims were fact, this writer could expect at least one telephone call from this list in any one year. Rarely are calls received, and then only by chance on a holiday. (Gatekeepers are away from their county post, one can imagine.) Besides, at one time these calls were received several times a month. Then, next to nothing.

Consider this (which the county refuses to do, by the way): Suppose that there are 4 crime scene cleanup companies within the 714 area code of Orange County. Suppose that the coroners employees service 12 death scenes in the 714 area code area in any one year. Statistically, one ought to expect about 3 telephone calls from bereaved persons referred by the Orange County Coroner's Department. So when years pass and there have been two or three such telephone calls (and then only on holidays), something is wrong.

The facts are that coroner's employees become hostile when queried over this lack of their due diligence toward the public trust. "Why not hand out all number so that there is no question of propriety, manipulation?" we have asked." "No, it can't be done" is their answer. When money goes into government employees' pockets from private companies (as we see in Washington DC), cronyism exists, as in Orange County, California, to repeat.

Note: Legally, for a government agency to exclude one company for the benefit of a quasi-monopoly requires open-bidding for a contract. A contract for which anyone can bid. This is not done by the Orange County Corner's Department, either.

More, this writer has talked with callers from all over the US who were interested in starting their own crime scene cleanup business. (I own www.crimescenecleanup.com after all.) Some of these callers were and are government employees. Among these callers there were those who were in contact with their local coroner's office or medical examiner, or county administrator. Because they, the callers, carried a government issued badge, they were to receive referrals from the above government offices. Fresno, California and Atlanta, Georgia are among two places that callers were calling from. One a prison guard, the other a fire fighter.

Crony relationships cause one to wonder if there are many other ways that the US reflects Russian bureaucracies' cronyism. For certain, wherever it occurs, cronyism is unethical, and usually against the law. How else is free enterprise perverted by our various government agencies?
